Adaiah – Meaning and Origin
Adaiah is a Hebrew name meaning “God has adorned” or “God has decorated.” It is derived from the Hebrew words adonai, meaning “Lord,” and yah, meaning “God.” The name Adaiah is often used as a variant of the more popular name Adoniah, which means “my Lord is Yahweh.”
History of the Name
The name Adaiah appears in the Bible several times. In 1 Chronicles 8:21, it is mentioned as the name of one of King David’s sons. In Nehemiah 11:17, it is mentioned as the name of a priest who lived in Jerusalem during the time of Ezra.
The name Adaiah was also used by early Christians to refer to Jesus Christ. This usage was based on a passage from Isaiah 9:6 which reads, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
